My entire life has been spent with me being involved in one form of ministry or another. As a child, I helped my mom. As a teen, I ventured out to volunteer where I could (typically next to my mom or sisters). As an adult, I dove head-first into any ministry opportunity that presented it, including working at the church for almost 10 years.
During these years, I flourished in Sunday School Classes, discipleship classes, Bible Studies, ladies groups and any other small group that seemed appropriate. I wouldn't trade those years of learning and growth for anything!
Since marrying the love of my heart, my dear husband, and becoming a missionary, I haven't had nearly as many opportunities to grow with other believers (other than the Sunday morning services). Travel, ministry events/gatherings and other obligations have made it so that committing to attend regularly is not likely.
I had a series of those moments while reading "None Like Him" by Jen Wilkin. The first chapter hit me between the eyes with an "Ah-ha" (or "Duh") that was blinding. God is truly limitless. Yes, I knew that. But I don't always walk in that knowledge. Actually, in my human-ness, I am often limiting Him.
The Chapter titles alone are food for delicious thought:
1. Infinite: The God of No Limits
2. Incomprehensible: The God of Infinite Mystery
3. Self-Existent: The God of Infinite Creativity
4. Self-Sufficient: The God of Infinite Provision
5. Eternal: The God of Infinite Days
6. Immutable: The God of Infinite Sameness
7. Omnipresent: The God of Infinite Place
8. Omniscient: The God of Infinite Knowledge
9. Omnipotent: The God of Infinite Power
10. Sovereign: The God of Infinite Rule
Each chapter closes with a section for reflection as it provides questions and scripture for delving deeper, as well as suggestions on how to pray over the topic. Given these tools, this book is a great resource for self-study or even for a group to use.
I was challenged and encouraged in my thought process and faith walk through the entire book. I felt refreshed as I finished. For such a small book, it had great impact.
